Dear Reader,
I share here what I like and what works for me. If you've been following me, you know that I can change my mind from time to time, and feel free to comment that I'm completely wrong, you may be right. I'm not running a business. I'm not paid and have never received any compensation or facilitation for any review/brand/site here mentioned. In case one day we'll ever meet, I'll be the one offering you a cup of Italian coffee, too.

Ping, my little pink pig

Ping the pink pig
Ping is my little pink pig, I hope you like him!
I've used two metallic rings to keep his rounded shape and, after some trials, I changed thread, because I've realized that I needed something less soft than cotton. So, I've used two strands of 100% polyester by DMC, wound with one strand of silk Faro. I hope that Marta (who suggested the pig some days ago) can forgive me if I still have not drawn the pattern, but I hope I can do it soon.

Metallic thread is Mouliné Metalisé (5288), silk is by Cucirini Cantoni Coats, n.3, color 258 (I think it's discontinued now). The size of those threads wound together is very close to a size 10, that's what I measure with my personal "gauge".

pattern - squared motif of the valentine's doily

pattern quad 17

This is the squared motif of valentine's doily. I haven't drawn the pattern for the edging yet.
You may want to refresh two techniques well explained - as usual - by Jane Eborall: one is "Starting Rings, Chains, Split Rings and Self Closing Mock Rings Without Tying Knots", and the other is "Joining last Ring to First Ring". You will find them on her site.

Please note that Fox has moved her blog, new link is :

lilac doily

lilac

The lilac doily is finished. The squared motif has been tatted with a shuttle (ecrù) and the ball (lilac), while the edging has requested 2 shuttles, filled with ecrù. Thread is DMC n.80. It is 25x25cm.

Buona Pasqua - Happy Easter!

Buona Pasqua
Tatting and decoupage. Thread is DMC size 80 and Perfect Quilter. Each ring is 6-6-6-6, except corner rings that are 8-8; chains are 7-4-7. I've used a lot of split rings and a mock ring in the split ring used as body for the butterfly. Those eggs are my favorite ever, pattern is Mimi Dillman Cluny Easter Egg

tatto-san

Tatto-san, your humble tatting servant.

But two pieces of the tattingram are still missing...

What it's going to turn out?

people beyond the screen

That's what I had yesterday in front of me: the third piece of my new tattingram (any guess?), one edging almost finished, the rough pattern for a pair of earrings and a lot of trials for the pig. Who's asked for the pig? I love designing that, because it's not as simple as you can think, there's the fun but also the challenge... Surfing all around the net, there're lots of tatting pictures, sometimes you might forget that there's a person beyond each single piece of tatting, a lot of time spent by passionate people that share with us their tatted pieces.  Many thanks for all those beautiful patterns that we receive by designers, too. Tatting lace is having a revival and I'm happy to see posts on facebook saying "I'm new to tatting"! Tatting is relax and fun, each piece is unique and "one of a kind", as per definition of "handmade". I love each single flower!

what am I doing?

1 of 5 earring by ninettacaruso
1 of 5 earring, a photo by ninettacaruso on Flickr.
That earring in the photo is one in the set of 5 that I've posted 10 days ago. It's the simplest in the group, tatted with 2 shuttles wound with the white silk and DMC n.283 silver metallic thread. It's still soft, like the silk, but it looks very good, it looks like a real jewel. I love the softness of the lace and I don't like stiffening tatted jewellery, even if sometimes I did. Unfortunately I've run out the silver, I've got only one loaded shuttle, not completely full: I should try to put the pattern in the TatHelper, to see if I can tat another earring! Thank you, Aurora!

But, wait... what am I doing? There's a strange "candy" activity right near there ...

Grazie Aurora!

Ma, aspetta... Che sto facendo? C'è una strana "caramellosa" attività proprio là vicino...

more or less

I've no bunnies, not today. Lucky me, Easter is far away... In the meantime - you know, I've too few projects on going - I've something that's almost like a pig face. Thank you to Marta who suggested the idea. But it's not the final pattern, it needs improvements and feet, so tomorrow I'm going to tat the third pig (or it's the fourth?).
In the collage I've put again my doilies, do you remember that I've asked you to find my errors? Now I've circled in orange where you've to look for my mistakes: one ring more in the first doily and one less in the second!
Good news: the silk is on my shuttles! I've already tested it, tatting those little rings, and I think it's too much thin, very similar to a size 100 thread, I can hardly see stitches and actually I don't like that fact. But probably it's my eyesight that's getting worse. So, I wound the silk toghether with a DMC n.283 silver metallic and I'll show you the result soon.

I've another square on flickr : here. That square has been tatted without following any pattern, but I don't think that it can be called "original". It is only one round, worked with 2 shuttles filled with color 3689 (pink) and Perfect Quilter #062 Volcano. A "sweet-candy" color combination, it reminds me to something sickly sweet. Not a colour combination that I would ever choose for a doily! But with that little candied square I've another project started, I'll tell you about it, more or less by a week...

Niente coniglietti, oggi no. Per mia fortuna Pasqua è lontana...
