100 posts! - WIP and attach tatting to fabric

I can't believe this is the hundredth post! I should say that without all your kind comments I'd have stopped soon! Thank you very much for your priceless support!

The African doily is already at its second last row, you see that I'm still dithering between yellow and pink, but in this moment I like both so probably I'll keep on tatting one another colour.

 

Dianire, in a previous post, asked how I attach tatting to fabric. Of course it depends on which kind of fabric, on the design, if it's an insertion or an edging. 

You can find a lot on the net, I've "googled": "attach tatting to fabric" and I obtained 55.400 results! There's also a thread on InTatters.

I prefer two methods, the hidden stitches and the button-hole stitch.

In order to prepare a piece of linen fabric, for example, I take out one strand from the fabric with a pin, about 1cm from the border; then I fold the fabric 2 times and tack it in position, Then I sew the hem with the same thread that I used for tatting or one similar to the fabric - I usually sew a single hem stitch ("orlo a giorno semplice"). never say never

I was wrong, my flowers fit perfectly side by side. The shoehorn lies unused...

In that post there's another close view that shows how she joined flowers together. I think it's working very good, even I didn't block it yet.

Do you see the twisted picot? Well, there's no way you can convice me to untat it.

Tour de force

I haven't tatted for two days, that's because I attended a class of Sardinian Bosa filet lace, a type of embroidery on a handmade net. We were a big group, about 20 people; 3 teachers came from Bosa for the weekend, carrying all what we'd have needed: threads, needles, frames.

It's been very engaging and demanding from the beginning, but I reassured myself when the teacher explained how they start with a node they call "attacco" in Italian, that means attachment/join. I had just recognized a familiar ds!

Time flew, we had a wonderful weekend together, teachers (Vittoria, Mimma and Lourdes) are so nice people, others in the group are all people belonging to our local association. At the end, tired but happy, we took a photo to be shared with friends!

Jane's doily started!

Threads are green dmc size 80 and multicoloured Perfect Quilter.

One little flower is ready in half an hour!

Two things are to be done with great concentration: closing scmr with similar tension and keeping the wheel direction. I closed SCMRs with a locked shuttle join and followed Jane's photos to have all SCMRs' intersections with second scmr over the previous.

Quad_25 is only a little square but it's precious for me, for many reasons...

I've tatted it with 2 threads, one is dmc size 80, number 368 green, the other is one of the big treasure that Fox sent last year. She sent many threads, all beautiful, I've used almost all for the squares, but I still have some to play with. The multicoloured rings look like bubbles to me! The wonderful muted mix is perfect with that green hue, it is Perfect Quilter... number?... well, we should ask Fox!

The colour scheme is so difficult that I can only guess. I think that they are primary colours as for the multicoloured thread and they "visually advance", while the green acts as cool and passive, even if it's a major part in the pattern. It was very difficult to find a background for the photo, at the end I opted for the black, nothing else worked. I know I've a lot to learn about colours!

This is the square number 25: that number is important to me as I started following all your blogs when I joined the "25 motif challenge". I'm very happy that I did it.

For onion rings, I've followed the tutorial prepared by Aurora Lozada for the online tatting class, it's great for me, it's better than other methods I tried before.

So, quad_25 is a thank-you square: to Fox, Sue Fuller, Sharon, Aurora... and you all!

Currently I should finish the edging with daisies and I've started another project, that is something 3D that challenges me.... But I also want to join the group (http://umintsuru.blogspot.it/2014/10/under-african-sky-tatting-challenge.html) that will tat the doily designed by Jane, so now I have to face the most difficult part: choosing colours!
