Dear Reader,
I share here what I like and what works for me. If you've been following me, you know that I can change my mind from time to time, and feel free to comment that I'm completely wrong, you may be right. I'm not running a business. I'm not paid and have never received any compensation or facilitation for any review/brand/site here mentioned. In case one day we'll ever meet, I'll be the one offering you a cup of Italian coffee, too.

who needs beads?

Disclaimer: tatting mock beads with size 80 thread, instead of using real beads is just an insane personal choice... You're warned. Moreover, handmade tatted beads could differ in size due to tatter's mood and irritability, but could also differ in shade due to hand washing soap unavailability. Ugh!

Thread dmc size 80, worked with 3 shuttles. Split rings, 3rd thread is carried inside the second half of each split ring.

Ciao,
Ninetta

  1. You are Amazing !!!! You come up such effects & techniques that one wonders why they haven’t been done for all these generations !!!
They look Great, with or without your riders :-)

I had made tatting beads using variable/uneven wrap in padded ds (1,5) & they give a solid bead effect. But yours are so cute wrapped around with a hollow centre like a true bead :-)

Is that Mrs Odum's Daisy in the corner ? So impatient to see it completed .....

    1. Ty! I'd like seeing your experiments with wrapped thread, did you put it in craftree? Yes, you're right, Mrs Odum's daisy is unique, just a glimpse and you know which pattern is :)

    2. I had posted my experiments with the pds , along with an update on the thread link, etc : http://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.in/2014/05/tatting-experimenting-with-stitch.html
You Must read/see that thread -- Usha Kota had done some lovely pieces (she also has an engineering brain like yours!).

Mrs Odum's Daisy is on my to-tat list for a long time .... identifying it was "Elementary" ;-P There is a lovely variation on that pattern too.

  7. I think this is a great idea real beads are really not great with cotton it tends to wear down the fibers over time.

  8. That's really clever! And pretty. And perhaps more 'pure' than adding beads.

  9. Thank you Carollyn and Jane! Wow now I could be distracted again, going to tat a "soft beaded" bracelet!! Why do I ever think useless things like a bookmark's tail?

  10. Oh I love clever new ideas like this! So do you carry the bead thread along the core thread of your split ring? I have to go and try this! Thanks Ninetta. :-)

  16. Brilliant idea! I can see this on Lanyards and if made in Polyester Penny thread be more resilient than cotton...
    Thank you for sharing
