Dear Reader,
I share here what I like and what works for me. If you've been following me, you know that I can change my mind from time to time, and feel free to comment that I'm completely wrong, you may be right. I'm not running a business. I'm not paid and have never received any compensation or facilitation for any review/brand/site here mentioned. In case one day we'll ever meet, I'll be the one offering you a cup of Italian coffee, too.

hopes

That's the time good resolutions for the new year spread all around, but today I just like posting about hopes of peace. I think that love is important in our lives, but mostly I hope at least the peace for everyone.

Today we celebrate the Befana, the same day of Epiphany that I learnt it is the most ancient Christian feast. The old ugly woman gives gifts to good children and those who didn't behave would have coal instead 😲 (but some pieces of really good black sugar are sold! You sweet tooth may want to google for "sugar coal").

I hope you had relaxing holidays and for those who had to cook/clean/host, I hope you enjoyed your families and friends too. I've been visiting relatives and friends and had few time for tatting. I spent most of the tatting time for playing again with bugle beads, those are more "snowflakes", well they would have been snowflakes if tatted in white!

Ah! One good resolution could be tatting more of these for next year xmas' gifts!

The next one is the adaptation of a squared pattern that is from a booklet "Selezione Tricot - Il Chiacchierino", 1990.
I hope you'll make numbers out in the next picture. I started with the inner row with block tatting, then climbed up to the round with rings and chains, then finished with the row all chains.
I also tatted a pair of big black earring, it is for a gift, pattern and colour was chosen by my friend. Pattern is from the magazine "Il mio chiacchierino" Aprile/Maggio 2014 (patterns are by Daniela Di Marzio and Alda Bonaldi Bodini). I find black very difficult to tat, but I do hope in 2017 to use up the big cone that I bought!
But first, I should finish the Falbalà doily and start the Priscilla edging. I hope so.

Ciao,
Ninetta
P.S. I nearly forgot to say thank you to Karen who just put a video about those curled inside rings: Lesson 165 - Curled-in rings. Thank you sweet Karen! My original post is here: http://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2016/01/a-curled-inside-ring.html

a curled inside ring

Hope you all had wonderful holidays! Here in Italy today is called the day of the "Befana", an old woman that gives gift to good children and coal to naughty ones! Are you enjoying your Epiphany?

These are all floating rings 8ds, picot, 8ds; picots are normal length, the difference between the second and the third it's in the way they have been curled. The second is a normal curled ring, as explained by Muskaan (curled over on a chain, option 2, http://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2015/05/tatting-tutorial-curled-ring-options.html ). The third is another possibility that I found by chance, while I was tatting something else, but I like that effect.
Start with a normal floating ring, then add that curled effect inserting the hook inside the ring and inside the picot from the back to the front (you would see the picot turned upside down), I found that it is better if I take the crochet hook facing up. Take a loop from the ball thread and pass the core shuttle as a normal join, positioning the join at the base of the ring. Continue with the chain normally.

We had relaxing holidays, the most part spent inside home or by relatives' home. We visited friends in L'Aquila, the city is still recovering from the earthquake in 2009:

We lived there 15 years, the most beautiful years of my life. Now we live near Rome, there are many advantages living close to such a wonderful city, but (truth be told) we don't often go there for a walk, only one or two times per year. Actually, this year already one time! The New Year's Day my dear husband and Iwent to a theatre in Rome, very close to San Pietro, there was a show by a famous quick-change artist, maybe someone out there has heard of Arturo Brachetti (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arturo_Brachetti), we enjoyed so much the whole time there, it's incredible that he can be that fast to completely change dress while he turns around himself!

A seagull: it isn't uncommon to see them in Rome, even in winter!

Ciao,
Ninetta

happy new year

In the italian version of "Stille nacht" there's a prayer I love:

"give light to minds,
instil peace in hearts"

I wish you that light and peace. Happy 2015.

The cone is in polyester thread, 3 strands, dmc.
There are more than 600 tiny miyuki beads.

Ciao,

missing wishes

I've been outside home, visiting relatives and eating a lot! I missed you tatters, I missed to send you, in time, my best wishes for this new year. Holiday time disappeared and all those little balls in the pictures did the same: they've been given as gifts.

Some others are still hanging on my tree, but only for few hours more, because I'm going to store all up till next year.

I've made over 20 of them, with some tatting I had put on my "hidden box", where I use to put all tatting for which I couldn't decide a destination, or test tatting, or not "perfect" pieces. Sometimes, I forget where was the bad spot and rescue the little boy. That was the case for a lot of them, transformed in balls within a week before Christmas.

In the next picture, you should recognize 3 patterns by Sharon Briggs, from her "Tatted flurries", converted in balls.

"Desiderare" in Italian means to desire, and - as a lot of italian words - it comes from Latin, where it meant "to feel that something is missing". I wish you to realize all your wishes, if you feel that something is missing in your life, but I also wish you to find something unexpected and marvelous, as the three Magi, when looking for a king they found God instead.

Thank you very much for all your nice comments.

Ciao
