Dear Reader,
I share here what I like and what works for me. If you've been following me, you know that I can change my mind from time to time, and feel free to comment that I'm completely wrong, you may be right. I'm not running a business. I'm not paid and have never received any compensation or facilitation for any review/brand/site here mentioned. In case one day we'll ever meet, I'll be the one offering you a cup of Italian coffee, too.

roundup 2 - stars and snowflakes for tatme dec2022

In December 2022 we had our first “Tat Me” game in the Fb Endrucks group. It consisted of tatting from a given set of patterns, snowflakes and stars derived from Endrucks patterns E3 and E12. Whosoever tatted the most number of models won the right to have them shown in the cover-pic of our group, from 24th to 31st December.

We received over 100 models!! That's awesome!!

Many thanks to Krystyna Mura who shared her 3 pdfs for stars and snowflakes derived from pattern E12, and to Muskaan, who designed the heart pattern derived from E3, which I incorporated to obtain a  snowflake.

Many many thanks to Paola Emilia Rotuletti who won the competition, tatting 28 models! Actually she told us that she tatted more than these, but we didn’t need more proof as she won by a wide margin!
Just one week after we started the game, Paola had already tatted 12 models! If you can make it out in the next pic, the dark green version of the Filigree star has pointed onion rings, that’s just a simple example of how our collection of different models can grow! She used these stars and snowflakes to dress up her Christmas 2022 Tree, and also as gift tags.

This is the list of the top five members, who tatted the most number of models:

  • Paola Emilia Rotuletti - 28 (and we don’t know how many more!)
  • Paola Bevilacqua - 21 (just because she was on something else for Christmas!)
  • Anna Tedesco - 15 (well, that is the official count!)
  • Lou Bunker - 12 (I think she’s trustworthy)
  • Ruth Palsson - 9 (all given away, so maybe she needed more?)

I invite you to read the previous post ( https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/08/roundup-1-stars-and-snowflakes-for.html )
and to visit the Facebook album where all models are compiled (there are more than 100 pictures) - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.850439426182885&type=3

In a successive third post I’ll show you my tatting and some stepwise pics I took for the game.

-------------------------------------------------

 Continuing from previous post.

16. Krystyna Mura - She said: “It was a great pleasure to share the patterns with the group 💗💝💗 I'm overjoyed to see so many beautiful stars and snowflakes tatted during this game!” - Many thanks! During December 2022 she added three models to her collection!

17. Laura Grisogani - She shared with us only her first attempt, where she admits to have made many errors, well hidden, imho... She told us that she has little time to devote to tatting, but if she could, she would always participate!

18. Lou Bunker - She tatted 12 snowflakes, with beads and using also metallic thread, a very nice and varied set, and a good count to enter in the top-five for the game!

19. Margaret Davies - She is the tatter who shared her Endrucks’ Angel (and Bell) pattern for our #tagmeEndrucks game held in November 2022 (the pattern is listed in the Angels & Tree Ornaments directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MVEEhKE79euDmOY65Es95rYihb5P9UcqmAJWG5qw4Ws/view ) - She often posts in our group! She said it was snowing outside and was bitterly cold for several days there where she lives. Great time to stay at home and tat! About her snowflakes, she ironically said: “all my points have a mind of their own,  no matter what I do they love to point in any direction but straight. Perhaps it’s my silly arthritis hand.” Let it snow, Margaret, in any direction!

20. Mela Cabo - She used metallic thread for tatting her snowflake and wished Merry Christmas to the group with a sweet picture.

21. Muskaan - Actually Muskaan and I started tatting stars and snowflakes in November, hence our participation to the competition would have not been fair… Anyway, the both of us together couldn’t reach the half of the number of models reached by the winner, LOL! Muskaan showed us her before and after pics, challenging herself with bead placement, in three posts in her blog:
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-1.html
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-2.html
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-3.html

22. Paola Bevilacqua - Midway through the month, she shared a short video with her sparkling twinkles, tatted with metallic thread. “Only” a second place for her, with 21 models! But her shuttles never rest, she tatted all the time till Christmas for more gifts and decorations!

23. Paola Emilia Rotuletti - She won the competition with 28 models! Her collection picture is at the start of this post.

24. Reiko Akamatsu - In her Filigree Star she didn’t tat the little rings in the tips. She posted her pic writing: “May peace come”. Unfortunately we still need this wish.

25. Roberta Porati - She added sparkle (to the already sparkling Sanbest metallic thread) using a lot of beads. Also, she added her own touch in one of them, adding an inner round to the Celtic pattern. She tried her hand at split chain for the first time in her tatting life! Well done!

26. Ruth Palsson - She tatted 9 snowflakes, using Lizbeth 20 (cotton and metallic) and DMC Diamant, and gave them away as Christmas gifts. She is in the top-five too! She wrote that tatting the Filigree was a learning process: she had never done split chains. She said: “Googled it and decided it was too difficult with the time I had available before I left the country to travel for X’mas! Had a good look at the pattern and realized it needed SCMR to do those thrown rings. Googled that too.” Thanks to a tutorial found online by Frivole, she could make it! Wonderful!

She also had a great help from Muskaan on how to avoid gapsosis in thrown rings. Muskaan’s blog is an amazing resource, and here is the link we are talking of:
And also Muskaan left in the comment more tips:

“With time I no longer need to fold the thrown ring(s). Simply position the TR flat, leave the tiniest bit of bare thread (enough to cover the height of the ds, and make the 1st half-stitch as close and 'under' the TR. You might need to wriggle the thread/stitch into position. Then hold it in your pinch and Then tat the next half-stitch. Remove from pinch only after 1 complete ds is made.
Several ways to make TRs (the pdf has detailed steps) - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2021/08/thrown-floating-and-8-rings.html
Some tatters make an unflipped half-stitch at the base of TR before continuing with the chain. I don't like it, nor need it. But whatever works for you is fine.
Hope these tips help?
”

Absolutely she helps!

27. Sharada Rajan - She posted only 5 stars and snowflakes, but she said there were a few more. I'm delighted to know that our game “produced” more stars and snowflakes than we can see, LOL!

28. Silvana Buonvino - She enjoyed tatting all her stars and snowflakes. For the Filigree star, she tatted the inner motif first, in pink and light blue (typically colours for newborns), and she thinks that having a four-leaf clover inside, makes for an auspicious gift for a newborn baby.

29. Stella Marina - She posted her first Filigree star very fast, just two days after we started the game. But then pre-Christmas chores have taken over, and she couldn't add more stars to her collection.

30. Vani Kattoju - She’s a creative tatter and at the time of the game she had just joined the group. She used cone thread and Lizbeth metallic gold. She is one of the two ladies who tatted all the letters for a new “Endrucks” banner, during the recent game “Name Me” in June 2024.

31. Winnie Ho - she is a very good tatter, and she’s the same lady who came out with the idea of the carrot and snap pea earrings (listed in the Jewellery directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ns-C3xQq4CA1tjZwGxFIyKWelLJbqwXJ/view ) - She posted only one snowflake on 22nd Dec, just in time for the game, and shared with us a very funny anecdote, she told us that she accidentally dropped the snowflake in her bowl of cereals when it was almost finished! So she had to wash and dry it before she could continue!

**********************

And ... if you’re still there, I tatted some snowflakes and stars too, before and during the game, that perhaps you want to look at… So, here is me in the last position, not for the competition but for the fun:
32. Ninetta Caruso - next post!

cover doilies roundup 2

Continuing from previous post, roundup for the Jan 2023 Tat-Along in the Fb Endrucks group.

Muskaan and I tatted the cover doily too. I tatted the doily in one colour and shared my stepwise pics for where to climb out with split chains, etc., to avoid frequent cutting and hiding. Alongside, Muskaan tatted it in colours and in separate parts. In this way, in our good intentions, anybody in the group could have had the chance to follow either any of us or even switch from one to the other between rounds as they wished.

Including the two of us, we had a total of 34 participants (tatters who tatted at least Part1) and 30 doilies completed (plus 1 big version by Reiko)!!!

In the current and in previous posts there are pics of the finished doilies, by members listed alphabetically. In the next post I’ll show you the WIPs sent in.

Links to the pattern reworked by Reiko Akamatsu and to Parts 1 to 6 of the Tat-Along game are in previous post: https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/06/cover-doilies-roundup-1.html

-------------------------------------------------

12. Michiko Ujihara - She showed us her WIP at the end of January, then she was silent for two months, but when she posted again in March she showed us a delicate brand new finished doily!

13. Muskaan - When she shared her version, she said: “Couldn't help myself, just too excited to show my finished peacock-inspired Endrucks' Cover Doily in 7 colours/shades.” No wonder her beautiful coloured pic had more than 70 reactions, all likes and hearts and wows! Read her blogpost here: https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/02/the-cover-covered.html

14. Ninetta - Yep, that’s me! I've had glitches with this doily, it didn't behave well... and so I blocked it overnight. I printed a polar grid, found in the site https://www.printablepaper.net/category/polar_graph

The day after was a lot more better!

15. Nona Litzelman - In her sweet words: “Finally got it done! This was a very complex project and I enjoyed it immensely. Love seeing all the different versions…there are some very creative people in this group. Thanks for all the wonderful instructions.”

16. Paola Bevilacqua - I’d like sharing with you her own words in Italian: “Non è stata proprio una passeggiata, però gli scogli bisogna superarli, un po' col ragionamento, un po' con l'intuizione. Questa è l'ennesima prova che il chiacchierino non è uno scherzo. C'è sempre da imparare, non è mai finita.  Grazie a Reiko, a Ninetta, a Muskaan.” Translation:- It wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but you have to overcome the obstacles, partly with the reasoning, partly with intuition. This is yet more proof that tatting is not a joke. There is always more to learn, it's never over. Thanks to Reiko, Ninetta, Muskaan.

17. Paola Emilia Rotuletti - She posted in mid-February, writing “slowly, slowly with a thousand interruptions and a thousand defects I finished it, with the intention of doing it again” - That’s a promise, isn’t it? Best wishes to her, hope she has many doilies planned!

18. Reiko Akamatsu - She joined us tatting two more versions. She had already tatted 2 doilies when she prepared the pdf in 2021. See her 2 previous versions here - https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2021/08/love-for-lace-music-and-nature-driven.html .

And also she tatted one new big version! Amazing!

19. Riva Nudelman - She often joins our games, with her colourful tatting. She said of her doily: “not perfect but having a great time and a learning experience”.

20. Roberta Porati - Despite she hurt a finger, she finished her doily with great determination and enthusiasm, she persevered and also learned new techniques along the way.

21. Silvana Buonvino - She’s one of the most active tatters in the group. If I understood well, she touched on a possible second doily… hope we’ll see it, sooner or later…

22. Stella Marina - How nice when members share their thoughts! She said: “A little crooked a little patched up, at least I managed to complete it! The next one I have to make it perfect! Thank you very much Ninetta Caruso Muskaan and Reiko. This doily for me represents life: sometimes difficult, other times smooth but always challenging… and full of colours, I bet you have a good laugh at this reflection of mine ahh” - Absolutely agree with Stella, life is colourful! That’s great, we are expecting a second doily from her, too!

23. Vani Kattoju - She’s self-critical but she’s a creative tatter indeed, and always ready to play with us!

… and the list is not finished yet!
Ciao, Ninetta

love for lace, music, and nature, driven by a healthy curiosity

Tatting in this post is by Reiko Akamatsu, one of the most prolific volunteers we have had in the Endrucks’ Project, a very enthusiastic and supportive contributor. She tatted and diagrammed the cover doily, plus 3 patterns and many derivatives models, not to mentioning many more patterns tatted from Endrucks’ for her own study which are not included in this project. She started working on the book even before we made the project public last year.

Reiko’s prototype version of the cover doily, near her first pencil sketch for the pattern

Muskaan and I are highly grateful for what she has shared with us. She is very talented and a great resource and inspiration for us all.
In Muskaan’s own words:

For this Project, Ninetta and I have mostly been communicating with tatters individually and though I did not get the chance to collaborate with Reiko directly, I have been in awe of her inspiring work as she systematically works through the book and experiments alongside. She might not have followed my n.22 pattern from 2015, but it was a pleasant surprise to see her models from a couple years back on fb. Her personal printout copy of the book along with her own diagrams is aesthetically spiral bound that you cannot fail to admire every time!

When I posted about the cupping dilemma (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2020/11/d-to-c-cup.html) encountered in pattern n.37, she actually tatted a model immediately and shared her tweaked count with me, which I may end up using! She is a true asset to our community project and I certainly wish language wasn’t such a barrier. I cannot thank Ninetta enough for being a worthy linguistic connection.

We hope that she collects all her tatted models from Endrucks’ book and permits us to share it in the Project doc. A committed lady doing single-handedly what a global community is trying to accomplish – amazing!

Thank you, Muskaan! Wonderfully written!

For many more motif applications/derivations, scroll through her facebook page since mid-2020:
タティングムジカ Tatting Musica : https://www.facebook.com/tattingmusica/

I am a “latecomer” follower! I started following her page last year, in August. It happened that, in a group, she shared the picture of her, near her finished "Lagniappe" doily, a design by Mike Lyon. Here it is a recent link to that pic, hoping that it works for you: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4575343845863895&id=100001649732912

I was immediately captured by the thin thread and the colours of that big doily. I understand that she usually uses Lizbeth size 40 threads. Then, that is how I’ve found all her beautiful tatting, that is a riot of colour! All stitches are neat and joyful!

In the next picture, there is Reiko’s arrangement of the Original Book Cover, tatted in 2020, before our project started:

Reiko’s arrangement of the Original Book Cover

She tatted 3 models of the cover doily: the above arrangement (2020), a prototype version (2021, shown above, in lead pic) and the final version in white and mustard, showed next here. You can visit her facebook profile at this link, it takes you to a post with many pictures, the 3rd pic shows how she tatted three models: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4386442354754046&id=100001649732912&sfnsn=wiwspmo

Reiko’s reworked Cover doily

In her personal Facebook profile page, she loves sharing flowers and enchanting nature. She plays violin (that is the reason of the word “music” in her page name, I think) and teaches tatting. In many pictures she puts together amazing flowers and the lace, letting herself be inspired by nature, to choose colours for her tatting.

Here is the link to a fb post, in which there is a video of her big “Lagniappe” doily, with a window overlooking a grove, and her music in background. I found it enchanting: https://www.facebook.com/reiko.akamatsu.37/posts/4289855454412737

Reiko’s reworked pattern n.2

She told me that she finds the automatic translation very difficult, so we can understand each other only by exchanging short English sentences. In fact, it's the same for me from her language to Italian. Often, I struggle to get what she means in her original Japanese posts. Japanese is one of the most difficult languages in the automatic translation to English, it's a pity that we have the language barrier between us.

Reiko’s reworked pattern n.26

Lately she posted that she is planning to hold an exhibition in November. I understand that she will display the work showed in the video, that is a large hand sewed quilt (or is it a tapestry? or a bedspread?) with tatting sewed on it. The big doily symbolizes the earth, that is my guess from the translation, and the quilted carpet is the universe, with flowers and stars. Some of her Endrucks’ versions can also be seen there!
For the video of her exhibition held in 2019, follow this link (posted in her fb page “Tatting Musica”): https://fb.watch/7vK-DLVTQM/

Reiko’s adaptation from patterns n.2 and n.26

She also runs a very original niche business.

From her other fb page, https://www.facebook.com/harurunleaf/ (that is mate of the internet site https://nijikoubou.square.site/) you can buy her very pretty bookmarks, with little rounded glass beads and Swarovski beads, called "Harurun Leaf", that is the same pattern tatted in many different colours. She often calls it Ruru leaf.

Here is what Google translated about the source of the pattern: “The design is based on P.28 No.28 of the book "the TATTED ARTISTRY of TEIKO FUJITO" by Professor Sadako Fujito, and I have added the string part of the bookmark. We have obtained permission to sell on September 25, 2012 from Mr. Sadako Fujito and President Nobuaki Seto of Vogue Co., Ltd.”- “The copyright of "Harurun Leaf" including the string part belongs to "Niji Kobo".”-

I love that she called the bookmark after her daugther, as I understand from the automatic translation:

★ "One leaf grows one tree, one tree creates a forest. People love the forest and are healed by the forest. Such a forest is born from a small little leaf." Youngest daughter We named it "Harurun Leaf" and "Harurun Leaf" from these words.
★ With that in mind, "What kind of people do you meet and what kind of books do you meet?" Each "Harurun Leaf" is created with an image entrusted to it.

Nice sweet words. I love reading books and often my tatting samples become bookmarks, and it is happening with some of my Endrucks’ samples, too.

Reiko’s reworked pattern n.23

I love ending with her own words, the voice of a modest and pretty soul:

"I have no special talent. I just have a very strong curiosity." (Reiko Akamatsu)

Thank you, Reiko!
