That's another little room:

Dimensions: 18x20cm (about 7x8inch).
Thread for the runner is twisted silk, produced by "Tecnoseta srl".

The lace around the footstool is cotton, size 100, but I cannot remember which brand is (Anchor or DMC).

The frame is a line of split rings, each one is SR: 3-2-2-3/3-2-2-3, thread is DMC size 60, ecru.

Gosh! I glued the doily upside down!

But I'm pretty sure that the Smurfs won't even notice!

Actually, I noticed it only after I enlarged the picture!

Have you spotted how I've used the 1 eurocent?
Just in case you're curious, Italy no longer produces the 1 and 2 eurocent coins (since 2018, cash prices are suggested to be rounded to the nearest 5eurocent, but actually they're still used), they decided that they cost more that they are worth. I've learnt that 1 euro cent and 2cent inside are steel and outside copper (source for this info is Wikipedia - url consulted nov 20 2019).

Will we notice? Well... I've read that all those that are still circulating are estimated in 7 billion euros! We sure won't be short of them, any time soon 🙂!

tailor's room

That has already been given away to one of my aunts. She (and my mum too) has been sewing clothes for all the family for all her life. She's also been a painter, the miniature picture I put into the room box, it is one of her own painting, I took a shot and printed a very very little picture.
I used the line of split rings to frame it, thread is dmc ecrù, size 40.

It happened that my brother gifted me a kit for making a tailor's room box, about the same time I had already started collecting miniature furniture and met "Dalì L'Artista" (the lady that decorates the shuttles).
Dalì helped me making that little beauty. But now I've many remnants from the kit, maybe for another room, I'll ask her help again!

In Italian there's only a vowel to difference between a man and a woman that sews ("sarto" and "sarta"), but in English I found that there are two different words. So, I asked and Mr.Google answered... what is the difference between a seamstress and a tailor?

Of course, it could not miss the tatting!
For the drawer in the left corner, I used little roses (Jeanne Lugert's pattern, modified, thread is dmc size 80) and a tiny doily tatted with sewing thread:

Making dollhouse boxes is addictive, just like tatting. My other WIPs are temporarily on hold because now I'm fully devoted to another room box, I'll tell you...

rosary and beads

It's so lovely, it can be also a lanyard or a necklace and it can also be embellished with beads and also you may like to change the cross' pattern. Many thanks to Jeanne Lugert for this beautiful design, she is also the designer of the beautiful roses that I've tatted many times, for example here: lilliputian rose.

I've also watched last video by Karen Cabrera, showing prayer beads, it's an intriguing technique, it also seems very useful for jewellery or key chains or wherever you like a tatted charm. Many thanks, Karen!

Actually, I did little changes. My beads are quartz, 6mm ∅, and they are slippery, so I've tatted flowers of 4 rings of 5ds, -join to previous-, 5ds, picot, 5ds, picot, 5ds.
Then, in place of tatting the flowers "detached" (as showed in Karen's video), I've tatted them with one of the 2 shuttles and substituted last ring with a split ring. In order to stabilise the bead, I've passed the other shuttle's thread through between the second and third ring. Sorry, I think my description is not so clear, maybe I should share a video too.

For the rosary, I substituted the lock stitch chain with a spiral chain: 

I realised that the lanyard can be tatted starting from the junction, that is where the pattern has a big ring. But I had to change that big ring with 2 rings, that is one is the starting ring, then I tatted the lanyard and came back to that point tatting the second ring:

After that, I tatted the short section with the cross and ended the pattern finishing with an SSSR (Miranda's method)

diamond-shaped

Everybody knows that diamonds' are a girl's best friend, not rhombuses... but you need to make do with what you have, and it happens that I've got lots of bugle beads.

Thread is Finca light gold (Hilo Metalizado, 1000mts, Presencia Hilaturas), double strand, 35% Polyester and 65% Viscose. I wound together two strands of this.

Pattern is easy-peasy, insert all bugle beads in one shuttle and use 2 shuttles CTM. For one bracelet I loaded 32 beads and then pull off about 120cm of thread and loaded the second shuttle. I tatted a ring of 12ds, using the shuttle loaded with beads, then started the line of split rings. Beaded split rings: put 2 bugle beads in the loop around the hand, then tat one ds, slide one bead from the shuttle then tat 2ds, then slide another bead from the shuttle and tat one ds; for the second side of the split ring, tat 1ds, get one bead from the loop, 2ds, get the second bead and finish with one ds. Close the split ring.

It happens, but my monster was very kind, he's split the tatted rings so nicely, I can't complain!

In the next picture, I started the SR, then tatted one ds, leaving the same space as the bugle bead, then tatted the second side of the split ring (8ds), then came again to the first part to tat the wide picot (5ds - they are 6 in total under the wide picot) then finished with 8ds and closed the SR.

Oh, I love it! I'd tat a bunch in all colours!

That is a necklace with matching earrings: where's the monster hiding?

I fell in love with this little roses!

On the third attempt, I started again from the original pattern. The white thread was hidden using Miranda's method of finishing with an SSSR, but I anchored the loop with the long green tail. In the same loop, I added a second shuttle, loaded with green thread:

The pattern of my base motif (under the rose) is 6 rings of 10-10, separated by chains with 3ds each.
I finished the little motif before "spiralling" the line of SR:

One green tail was cut and used to be threaded in picots, the other one was hanging from the back side of the motif. Then I used the rounded side of the crochet hook as an helper to wind the rose.
On the back, I just knotted the two ends.

I like how it turned out, but a rigorous scientific experiment it is proved true only if it is reproducible. Then I went. I have four roses now. That's all? I don't think so! I want to use an Italian expression: "Mi è venuta un'ideuzza..." (that means I have an idea how to use them but I hesitate to share it!!)

always the same old story (but with curled rings)

We have our (Italian) idiom to say that, and guess? There's a food word, of course! We say "sempre la solita minestra" (always the same soup). There are yummy soups, that you don't ever get tired of. But even the most tasty recipe needs to be spiced up in a different way, once in a while.

I love split rings and I tat a lot of bracelets, there's many beads arrangements that create always the one of a kind, that amuse me.

I played with split ring bracelets again, and had that "why-not" moment for my same old soup.

Two shuttles (SH1 and SH2). String in SH1 all needed beads, I put 20 beads for a bracelet for me, add more if you want a necklace.  Thread is HWT (Hand Wound Thread - BC3's copyright here!), one strand of silk Faro size 3 and one strand Finca (light gold Hilo Metalizado, 1000mts, Presencia Hilaturas),  they are very close to a size 20. Curled rings are all 8-8. Pattern start with a normal ring, then I added the second thread,

- slide one bead and tat a split ring (loop always with SH1): 6-2/8; the bead will stay blocked at the end of the split ring in the loop.
- CR with SH2 : 8-8, fold always around the base of previous SR, from back to front, normal join

(*) - slide one bead and tat a split ring with SH1: 2+(join to previous SR) 6 / 6-2
- CR with SH1 : 8-8
- slide one bead and tat a split ring with SH1: 6-2 / 2+(join to previous SR) 6
- CR with SH2 : 8-8

Repeat from (*) for the length you want, a bracelet or a necklace. I finished my bracelet with the method showed by Miranda here: http://tattingfool.blogspot.it/2011/07/finishing-with-sssr.html

a thread about

One of my latest purchases it is a gold metallic thread that friends suggested as a good quality and feasible for tatting.

It is Finca light gold (Hilo Metalizado, 1000mts, Presencia Hilaturas), double strand, 35% Polyester and 65% Viscose, about the same composition of a dmc gold metallic 282 that it is a 3 strands twisted together - on my spool it's reported 65% Rayon, 35% Polyester. As far as I understood, rayon and viscose are both synthetic fibres, quite the same fibre then, the difference it is in the processing technique.

Of course the size is different: while dmc 282 is like a size 70, this Finca is like a size 80 or even less. Moreover, it looks "less gold" than the dmc and it breaks easily.

So I screened out the possibility of tatting with one strand only.

I started some tests:
(1) one strand and the cotton Special Dentelles yellow colour n.744 size 80 (that together are like a single size 50),
(2) one strand and a 100% Polyester white sewing thread,
(3) two strands,
(4) two strands and a 100% Rayon gold thread Miyuki used for beading

Pattern for the bracelet:
··: = three beads 'up' (on the picot) one bead 'down' (on the shuttle thread)
Start with a ring of 8 ds, I use this ring to attach the lobster clasp hook.
SR (string 4 beads in the loop): 6 ··: 6 / 6 ··: 6 close
Make as many split rings as required for your wrist.
Finish with a normal ring, 12 ds, in which I usually hide both ends, as I learned this method by Miranda: http://tattingfool.blogspot.it/2011/07/finishing-with-sssr.html

Only my opinion, but I like how the (1) turned out, the cotton adds strength and the metallic broke only once in the bracelet length. In a second bracelet, it never broke that means that also the tatter needed exercise!

Conclusion: pretty good for tatting to add a sparkle, far cheaper than dmc, not as gold though... but I've bought 1000 meters, I better use it!

who needs beads?

Disclaimer: tatting mock beads with size 80 thread, instead of using real beads is just an insane personal choice... You're warned. Moreover, handmade tatted beads could differ in size due to tatter's mood and irritability, but could also differ in shade due to hand washing soap unavailability. Ugh!

Thread dmc size 80, worked with 3 shuttles. Split rings, 3rd thread is carried inside the second half of each split ring.

part I - pattern for the doily

I had almost forgotten my doily, the one showed here: http://ninettacaruso.blogspot.it/2014/01/flowery.html
It's been on my patterns-to-be-written-list for a year now, so I think its right name could be "forget-me-not"!

This is the central round. It's a round with 8 little daisy, each one it is 4 rings and 2 SR. All beads - if you like adding them - are loaded in the second shuttle.

1.
Start with a ring R:3-3-3-3. I put there a loop for the magic trick (for hiding one end).
Then another 2 rings, all rings here are 3-3-3-3.
Then start a split ring but tat only the first part: 3ds, picot, 3ds. I put there another magic loop for the end.

2.
Add another colour. This is optional 'cause obviously you could choose to work CTM instead, all in one colour. But I like the effect that a contrasting hue gives to the center. I added a second thread, hiding the end inside, so tat in reverse 3ds, picot (or bead in picot), 3ds. Beads are optional, too.

3.
Close the SR.

4. Second daisy:
SR: 3-3/3-3
I put a bead before starting the SR and another bead in the picot.
Then 4 normal rings with first shuttle. The first ring is joined to the previous fourth:
R: 3+(to SR) 3+(to previous daisy fourth ring) 3-3
R: 3+(previous ring) 3-3-3. Repeat another two times.
SR: 3+(previous ring)3 / 3+(previous SR) 3.

This daisy motif has to be repeated 8 times for the center and 6 times for little motifs around petals. In a next post I'll show you how I close the round of daisy.
