 In July 2023 we had the “Mark Me” game in the Facebook Endrucks group. 

This game followed the ColourMeEndrucks in June 2023 (roundup here: https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/09/colour-me-endrucks-roundup.html ), and so we suggested to our group to find a fun way to keep creating something colourful and usable, while reusing their tatted “ColourMe” edgings. And as you easily guess from the title, the game consisted of tatting bookmarks.

Also, in Frau Eleonore’s book there are many original edgings and insertions, some had already been adapted into bookmarks, and some more sprang up during this game. Not only for bookmarks, these patterns can also be easily embellished for bracelets, hairbands, and chokers.

1. Anna Bonelli - Her model is a combo of E10 and the E3 heart charm. Absolutely agree with Muskaan’s comment: Clever adaptation and use of colour placement!

2. Brookie Heightsmen – She called it “book worm mark”, nice and witty name! Pattern extracted from E41. I am with Muskaan when she says Brookie always manages to bring in a twist and a fresh look!

3. Lella Loops – within a couple of days after the end of the game, she sent this simple corner bookmark, derived from E1 adaptation by Muskaan... I love the colour of this little heart ❤️and very beautifully tatted!

4. Muskaan – These bookmarks are part of the countless collection of E37 derivatives tatted by Muskaan, during her adventure that lasted 3 years! Read what she tells us here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/08/almost-3-years.html
She already gifted many E37 derivatives to the Project, but my feeling is that the magician may pull more rabbits from her hat!

5. Ninetta Caruso – That was lazy tatting… I had started the E6 edging during the previous game in June 2023, it was already hanging on the shuttles and there was no need for much imagination: I just doubled the pattern.

6. Pina Pinto – I feel honoured that Pina chose to present her bookmarks (one is a butterfly, the other one looks like a blue flower), derived from E16, with the cover of my book “Tatting is a serious matter” in the background! She’s a long-time member of the group, being one of the first Volunteers. The early pdf with Pina Pinto's stepwise pics for the E16 was available since Nov 2020. Later, we reorganised it and added diagram and text, the new version is already public. For her blue bookmark she used part of the E16 edging, but it’s still only a model without a proper pattern, like many other models in the Project. 7. Sheetal Kakodkar – She’s a talented Indian tatter and participated with two bookmarks! The first one is derived from E18a, the second one is derived from E43, I love the interesting shapes she designed. In both she used part of the main pattern and added a tail with many techniques, which is a clever idea. Very inspiring!

8. Vani Kattoju – She’s not new to the group, nor to design, always ready to participate with enthusiasm and creativity. For this game she proposed patterns’ combos that are her original ideas.

For the bookmark which combines E3 and E8, she wrote it looks like a fun cartoon’s bookmark and asked our opinion. I agree with her, but Muskaan left her romantic point of view: “To me it looks like a small nosegay with dangling ribbons!”.

In the second picture, her tatting is extracted from pattern E12. She showed us two Rakhees tatted in sight for the Indian festival Raksha Bandhan. The larger she thinks could be a bookmark too, and the smaller one a brooch or a pendant.

In the third pic, there is a model which combines two patterns, E18a and a second unspecified one, I inked the question mark in the pic, because the E38 is my guess.

I'm so happy to have joined the Project, it's a great way to learn and to improve my tatting, and it’s an incredible source of inspiration. Each participant brings a different perspective and new ideas, and we love this creativity, it’s what makes the project grow. And the bigger the project gets, the more we have to do behind the scenes! Instead in my blog I'm forever running behind. In fact I still have to show you the roundups of many games held in the Facebook group “Endrucks 1920 Project Group” in 2023 and 2024!
In this post you will find the collection of photos published during the game “Colour Me”, held in June 2023.

This colourful game consists in tatting one (or more) edging pattern from a subset of main patterns, using minimum 2 colours. In June 2023 we proposed 7 patterns which, in our opinion, resemble trees, but tatters chose freely their favourite colours and then the final look was not always something you can call a tree. Here is the list with links to respective pattern pdf:

1. Anna Bonelli, pattern E3 – She used soft light colours and opted to decorate her shirt with this flourishing edging.

2. Brookie Heightsmen, patterns E14 and E41 – She wrote that she didn’t feel in shape to tat, and she found her tatting was not very good. But we are very thankful that she decided to take part anyway, and with 2 models! Her E14 coloured thread reminded Muskaan of Holi, the festival of colours, in India! 

 Also, Brookie in her E41 sampler saw a stained-glass window with flowers. I can see it!

3. Margaret Davies, pattern E8 – She used Lizbeth size 20 thread, medium blue and Christmas green. She was unsure what to do with it, and we can only guess from her comments, perhaps she attached it to a pillowcase.

4. Michelle Forclaz, pattern E8 – She wrote that she had a problem at the end of the trunk. Which problem, I cannot spot it… She’s very creative, during that time she enriched our collection with a cat derived from E6 (July 2023), a fox’s head and a butterfly (July 2023) derived from the E3 - Eye Spy Heart by Muskaan. These are displayed in respective directories.

5. Muskaan, pattern E14 – She devoted all her time in June 2023 to design variations of the patterns E14, ending up with an entire forest! In her blog she shared her work in progress, impressions and symbols, here:  https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/06/impressions.html
In the next pic there are her single E14 motifs as trees. She said “Single shuttle and ball (size 40), reposition methods used; different shades and picots for seasonal symbolism; couldn't add beads due to size mismatch.”
(That reminds me an old friend who used to show us wonderful photos, and later we discovered that he usually took 20 and showed us 2! So Muskaan, how many trees you have tatted?)

For the 2023 International Lace Day (25 June) she wound her shuttle again:

On 2nd July she revealed her interpretation of the #colourmeendrucks – “depicting the same tree during the Six Seasons we have in India. The foliage (rings) in each differ in the number and size of picots, each conveying a sense of the season. All tatted in size 40 threads in 12 different shades. “

6. Nancy Moore, pattern E43  – She called it “snakes in the garden, because of the two-colour split rings down the centre where the shuttles are reversed before each new ring.” Tatted in size 80. She wrote: “I made the same mistake in each half which gave the motif a very artistic/organic feel. I like the crooked blooms!” I think she created something very original!
And also, Muskaan commented that it can easily be tweaked into a butterfly, too. That’s a very nice idea, I love butterflies!

7. Ninetta Caruso, pattern E6 – I think it was the first time I tatted that pattern, and I found it very enjoyable. The thread is Lizbeth size 80, the multicoloured thread colour 154, and the green (I cannot remember the colour number).

8. Paola Bevilacqua, patterns E2+(E28 Heart) – She combined together patterns E2 and E28 Heart (by Muskaan) for a new edging. The beautiful hat, embellished with the edging tatted with two shades of bronze metallic thread, looks even more beautiful when worn by a budding fashion model, Paola's sweet granddaughter!

9. Pina Pinto, pattern E8 – Really clever use of beads to give the effect of real fruits hanging on the tree! 

10. Sally Biggers, pattern E29 – Her bookmark was tatted with Lizbeth size 20, colour 130 (Island Breeze). She wrote: “So enjoyed this month's challenge.  Am envious of those who were able to post multiple patterns, but also thankful that they were able to carry this out!”. She created at least 3 derivative patterns for our collection, one of them is the “January Snowflake” from the E43, that I tatted in April with flowery colours.

11. Silvana Buonvino, patterns E3, E6, E8, E10, E14 – She never fails to fulfil our wishes and is one of the most active tatters in the group! For the E3, she posted a nice edging with contrasting colours, they look like moving dancers holding hands! 

For the E6 she used the colour combo yellow and pink, resulting in a nice set, and now I’m very curious to know where she used them! 

With her E8, she managed to perfectly convey the idea of a row of trees. 

Looking with more attention to her E10, I think it is her coloured version of the “Victorian Love” bracelet by Wally Sosa (shown in the main pattern pdf). 

For the E14, she used bright metallic thread, multicolour range 30 (Guastalla) and light blue Sanbest, probably ready for jewellery or an application for a fashion top.

12. Teresa Grzeskowiak, pattern E8 – It was her first try at block tatting and her first submission in our group! We are very happy and energised every time a new tatter joins the Project!

13. Vani Kattoju, pattern E8 - Have you noticed the little birds on the tree? Or are they flowers? Vani jokes and encourage us to be imaginative.

Now that the game is over, I’d like to repeat here part of our invitation to the game with the questions about design and colours, to see if any comment/answer will arrive to satisfy our curiosity…

We all love colours, don’t we! But everyone “sees” them in different ways, depending on personal experience, cultural heritage, or just their own preference. How do you combine colours in your tatting? Do you rationally apply the colour theory? Do you consult sites specialised in teaching how to mix colours? Do you ask friends/mum/sister/hubby to throw the dice? Do you just try to use up your stash, depending on your mood and without a clear idea in mind? Are you going to tell us your method?

roundup 1 - stars and snowflakes for tatme dec2022

Yes, you read that right: 2022. I'm a little late, aren't I?

In December 2022 we had our first “Tat Me” game in the Facebook Endrucks group. 

Our idea was to indulge in the seasonal tatting (typically stars and snowflakes), but also spice up the game by including a tatting contest. We liked the formula a lot, so much so that we repeated it in December 2023, but I'll tell you about it in a future post. Now, back to December 2022.

The “Tat Me” Game consists of tatting from a given set of patterns, and whosoever tats the most number of models wins the right to have their models as the cover-pic of our group for one week.

1. Adriana Tomanin - She found the “Little Stars and Snowflakes” was the easiest pattern in the game. That makes her a good tatter indeed, because I think this pattern asks for a regular tension, which cannot be taken for granted by tatters on their first try.

2. Anita Schaeder - She thinks the “Tat me snowflake” is a very interesting pattern and a joy to tat! Thank you! She shared her version with 5 repetitions of the heart designed by Muskaan, which makes it similar to the “Pretty Me Coaster”. Also, she tatted one “Little Star”, using DMC size 20. Then, she felt her model from the “Celtic Stars and Snowflakes” was a bit empty in the center, so she added a simple flower (where rings are 3ds and chains 6ds); The “Celtic” and the “Filigree” are tatted with Mölnlycke cotton thread size 20, yellow and light brown, and Lizbeth size 20 "Autumn Spice". 

3. Anna Bertini - She called them “Le mie stelline” (my little stars), sent her heartfelt thanks to Muskaan and me and complains that her arthritis doesn't allow her to make nice tatting anymore. A big thank you for your participation, we really appreciated it.

4. Anna Bonelli - She posts often in our group, being a good tatter who can pass smoothly from shuttle to needle. Can you say what she used here? I forgot to ask her…

5. Anna Tedesco - Copying here a comment by Muskaan: “I am sure Krystyna had You in mind when she made multiples 🤣”!!! Actually, I think she hid another bunch of stars and snowflakes, but we had to be strict and counted only the pics she sent! For her own admission of guilt: “I spend more time photographing them than making them!” (We should ask Daniela Galli, if she confided her total count to her pal!)

6. Antonia Lai - She kindly arranged all her models in a short video, wishing “Merry Christmas from Down Under” (she is Australian).

7. Antonietta Gazzaneo - She enjoyed so much all models tatted by others, that she wanted to have a part in the fun, even with only two models!

8. Cristina Reb - In the Filigree Star she added a top picot, ready to be hung as a Christmas decoration! Great idea!

9. Daniela Bogacka - She participated tatting the “Pretty Me Coaster”, but I think it is a nice star for the Game, isn’t it? 

10. Daniela Galli - I'm pretty sure there were some more snowflakes under Daniela's cups, but these are what she showed us. To date, her ice drop model is one of only two actually tatted for the Endrucks 1920 Project.

11. Debra Fitchen Cox - She uses her favourite Aunt Lydia size 10 thread. She called her “Celtic” snowflake “Charlie Brown snowflake”! Very funny! She is so kind to thank the group and the admins on every game she participates, for giving her the opportunity to learn: “So enjoying this adventure thank you for being accepting of my attempts.”

12. Ellen Stevenson - She tatted three “Little Stars and Snowflakes”. Sportingly, she wrote “Thank you for the project - challenging but enjoying.” Thank you for participating!

13. Irma Noemí Figueroa - She was creative, adding beads and tatted motif as an alternative inner round for the “Celtic Star” pattern. She also tatted a Dream Catcher variation of the “Little Stars and Snowflakes” pattern. 

14. Julie Myers - She wrote: “I am a bit late, but I have been doing things for other people. Better late than never.” Julie, nobody is ever late for our Games!

15. Kaylyn Beattie - She used Lizbeth Metallic in Gemstone colour. She said it was a fun pattern! And also found she needs to work on her tension a bit. I think she did a great job.
