it was my turn - stars and snowflakes for tatme dec2022

For our “Tat Me” game in December 2022, for the Endrucks 1920 Project Group, we received over 100 stars and snowflakes! We love seeing our group enthusiastically engaged!

I invite you to read the previous posts:
https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/08/roundup-1-stars-and-snowflakes-for.html
https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/08/stars-and-snowflakes-for-tatme-dec2022.html
and to visit the Facebook album where all models are compiled - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.850439426182885&type=3

In the next picture you can see how I used many of the stars and snowflakes: I bought two tote bags and then sewed the tatting on them with an invisible sewing thread. These were X’mas gifts for two friends of mine. Can you spot the “Fronkensteen butterfly” ? Now she’s gone with the bag… (https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2021/02/fronkensteen-butterfly.html )

In the current post I’ll show you my tatting, not listed in any particular order, partially made before the game, and some stepwise pics I took during the game.

-------------------------------------------------

1. Pattern by Krystyna Mura, “Celtic Stars and Snowflakes” - Pdf link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/129sfHkcR-MIhZniq6T-_Zh5BAcnJUqOw/view
The motif was slightly ruffled, thread is metallic Sanbest (3 strands), but after some mumbling, I decided to follow Muskaan’s tip - how to block using a rolling pin - (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2016/03/rolling-out-mental-block.html )

Fig.2

2. Pattern by Krystyna Mura, “Filigree Stars and Snowflakes” - Pdf link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o_qb8Z1CkHq_nOQ-90k_QWpnhrRb0V_d/view
I haven't followed her instructions, I found it easier to tat the inner round first. I closed all the SCMRs together at the end, using another thread as a helper: I cut a short length of a cotton thread, folded it in half and put it at the very start and then at the starting point of each scmr. At the end, I passed the core thread in that loop (as though it was a magic loop trick), pulled the core thread and blocked them all in the centre. I cut and sewed ends. Here is the stepwise pics shared in the group:

Fig.3. Thread is metallic Sanbest, 4 strands.

In next pic, the little red rings are 4-3-3, I changed Krystyna’s stitch count.
There's a scmr that is not perfect, I had tension issues, but I loved this challenge.

Fig.4. Thread is metallic Sanbest, 3 strands.

3. Another Filigree Stars designed by K.Mura.
I tatted this one continuously starting from the outer round (faithful to Krystyna's original pathway)

Fig.5

4. Another Filigree Star designed by K.Mura.
Tatted continuously, starting from the inner round, as suggested by Muskaan (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-3.html )

Fig.6

Fig.7

5. Another Filigree Star designed by K.Mura.
Following Muskaan's tip again, and tatted in two separate rounds. Added the clip and one unflipped stitch after closing each scmr, as explained by Muskaan here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-3.html .
There's a little hole in the centre, that didn't show with my previous method (see Fig.7), but I like it!
Well, my personal preference is tatting this pattern in two separate rounds.

Fig.8

6. Another Filigree Star from the pattern by K.Mura -
This is a variant of the Filigree Stars, following the tip by Krystyna: “By modifying the number of ds in the inner round, you can get motifs of other shapes.” I tatted 6 petals for the centre round, but I was not completely satisfied, it was ruffling at the end of the first round, and still slightly ruffled when finished. In the attempt to reduce the ruffle, I reduced the size of the thrown rings in the outer round, here they are 4-2-2

Fig.9

7. Next is from the set “Little Stars and Snowflakes” by K.Mura. - Pdf link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D9n0yMmq50bO5PAf7883R7qJ_xR-agHT/view
I posted in the group a very short video, where I moved and stretched the arms till they were good enough for a nice picture! Now you can watch the video also here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z3obQ1Jp72eADykhc0OtzJIk_hqnt37_/view?usp=drive_link

Fig.10

8.  “Tat me snowflake” by N. Caruso - Pdf link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZENvdgxihM0YI3Ar_UxP9lqRwprmFotP/view
This pattern is based on the “Eye Spy Heart” designed by Muskaan and derived from Endrucks’ pattern E3 - I have only added the split rings in the centre. Five repetitions of the heart make it a little coaster; six repetitions make it a snowflake (with a little modification in the arms, otherwise it wouldn't lie flat).
I’ve shared a short video with the model shared in the pdf and tatted in November, just before the game, with beads at tips - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K2xPwVa5PCitwqffe6c6KG8fPDHtZVUN/view

In the next model, made in December, I tatted the thrown rings as mock rings (or SCMR), hence a little thrown ring 4-4 can be added at the tips. When tatting the second SCMR, I joined with an Under and Over join (well this is over and under!) also called Alligator join.
For a tutorial about the Under and Over Join, please read this one by Muskaan:
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2018/05/mock-rings-1-under-and-over-join.html
And also: https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2019/11/frost-flower-pictopattern.html

Where all my stars and snowflakes went? Oh, one or two were spotted on the Christmas Tree!

**********************
The game is really over! But you can still continue to tat and share with us stars and snowflakes from our Project, all listed in the Snowflakes directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NKMYK3i4PI9pRmyotGCk5GkV2xcDS_hSgJfh322EQFQ/view
and they will be always very welcome!

From Muskaan and me, our heartfelt thanks to Krystyna Mura and to all participants!

And a special thank from me to Muskaan, I am so fortunate to have such an amazing partner in this Project! 🥰

Ciao, Ninetta.

roundup 2 - stars and snowflakes for tatme dec2022

In December 2022 we had our first “Tat Me” game in the Fb Endrucks group. It consisted of tatting from a given set of patterns, snowflakes and stars derived from Endrucks patterns E3 and E12. Whosoever tatted the most number of models won the right to have them shown in the cover-pic of our group, from 24th to 31st December.

We received over 100 models!! That's awesome!!

Many thanks to Krystyna Mura who shared her 3 pdfs for stars and snowflakes derived from pattern E12, and to Muskaan, who designed the heart pattern derived from E3, which I incorporated to obtain a  snowflake.

Many many thanks to Paola Emilia Rotuletti who won the competition, tatting 28 models! Actually she told us that she tatted more than these, but we didn’t need more proof as she won by a wide margin!
Just one week after we started the game, Paola had already tatted 12 models! If you can make it out in the next pic, the dark green version of the Filigree star has pointed onion rings, that’s just a simple example of how our collection of different models can grow! She used these stars and snowflakes to dress up her Christmas 2022 Tree, and also as gift tags.

This is the list of the top five members, who tatted the most number of models:

  • Paola Emilia Rotuletti - 28 (and we don’t know how many more!)
  • Paola Bevilacqua - 21 (just because she was on something else for Christmas!)
  • Anna Tedesco - 15 (well, that is the official count!)
  • Lou Bunker - 12 (I think she’s trustworthy)
  • Ruth Palsson - 9 (all given away, so maybe she needed more?)

I invite you to read the previous post ( https://ninettacaruso.blogspot.com/2024/08/roundup-1-stars-and-snowflakes-for.html )
and to visit the Facebook album where all models are compiled (there are more than 100 pictures) - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.850439426182885&type=3

In a successive third post I’ll show you my tatting and some stepwise pics I took for the game.

-------------------------------------------------

 Continuing from previous post.

16. Krystyna Mura - She said: “It was a great pleasure to share the patterns with the group 💗💝💗 I'm overjoyed to see so many beautiful stars and snowflakes tatted during this game!” - Many thanks! During December 2022 she added three models to her collection!

17. Laura Grisogani - She shared with us only her first attempt, where she admits to have made many errors, well hidden, imho... She told us that she has little time to devote to tatting, but if she could, she would always participate!

18. Lou Bunker - She tatted 12 snowflakes, with beads and using also metallic thread, a very nice and varied set, and a good count to enter in the top-five for the game!

19. Margaret Davies - She is the tatter who shared her Endrucks’ Angel (and Bell) pattern for our #tagmeEndrucks game held in November 2022 (the pattern is listed in the Angels & Tree Ornaments directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MVEEhKE79euDmOY65Es95rYihb5P9UcqmAJWG5qw4Ws/view ) - She often posts in our group! She said it was snowing outside and was bitterly cold for several days there where she lives. Great time to stay at home and tat! About her snowflakes, she ironically said: “all my points have a mind of their own,  no matter what I do they love to point in any direction but straight. Perhaps it’s my silly arthritis hand.” Let it snow, Margaret, in any direction!

20. Mela Cabo - She used metallic thread for tatting her snowflake and wished Merry Christmas to the group with a sweet picture.

21. Muskaan - Actually Muskaan and I started tatting stars and snowflakes in November, hence our participation to the competition would have not been fair… Anyway, the both of us together couldn’t reach the half of the number of models reached by the winner, LOL! Muskaan showed us her before and after pics, challenging herself with bead placement, in three posts in her blog:
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-1.html
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-2.html
https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/12/before-and-after-3.html

22. Paola Bevilacqua - Midway through the month, she shared a short video with her sparkling twinkles, tatted with metallic thread. “Only” a second place for her, with 21 models! But her shuttles never rest, she tatted all the time till Christmas for more gifts and decorations!

23. Paola Emilia Rotuletti - She won the competition with 28 models! Her collection picture is at the start of this post.

24. Reiko Akamatsu - In her Filigree Star she didn’t tat the little rings in the tips. She posted her pic writing: “May peace come”. Unfortunately we still need this wish.

25. Roberta Porati - She added sparkle (to the already sparkling Sanbest metallic thread) using a lot of beads. Also, she added her own touch in one of them, adding an inner round to the Celtic pattern. She tried her hand at split chain for the first time in her tatting life! Well done!

26. Ruth Palsson - She tatted 9 snowflakes, using Lizbeth 20 (cotton and metallic) and DMC Diamant, and gave them away as Christmas gifts. She is in the top-five too! She wrote that tatting the Filigree was a learning process: she had never done split chains. She said: “Googled it and decided it was too difficult with the time I had available before I left the country to travel for X’mas! Had a good look at the pattern and realized it needed SCMR to do those thrown rings. Googled that too.” Thanks to a tutorial found online by Frivole, she could make it! Wonderful!

She also had a great help from Muskaan on how to avoid gapsosis in thrown rings. Muskaan’s blog is an amazing resource, and here is the link we are talking of:
And also Muskaan left in the comment more tips:

With time I no longer need to fold the thrown ring(s). Simply position the TR flat, leave the tiniest bit of bare thread (enough to cover the height of the ds, and make the 1st half-stitch as close and 'under' the TR. You might need to wriggle the thread/stitch into position. Then hold it in your pinch and Then tat the next half-stitch. Remove from pinch only after 1 complete ds is made.
Several ways to make TRs (the pdf has detailed steps) - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2021/08/thrown-floating-and-8-rings.html
Some tatters make an unflipped half-stitch at the base of TR before continuing with the chain. I don't like it, nor need it. But whatever works for you is fine.
Hope these tips help?

Absolutely she helps!

27. Sharada Rajan - She posted only 5 stars and snowflakes, but she said there were a few more. I'm delighted to know that our game “produced” more stars and snowflakes than we can see, LOL!

28. Silvana Buonvino - She enjoyed tatting all her stars and snowflakes. For the Filigree star, she tatted the inner motif first, in pink and light blue (typically colours for newborns), and she thinks that having a four-leaf clover inside, makes for an auspicious gift for a newborn baby.

29. Stella Marina - She posted her first Filigree star very fast, just two days after we started the game. But then pre-Christmas chores have taken over, and she couldn't add more stars to her collection.

30. Vani Kattoju - She’s a creative tatter and at the time of the game she had just joined the group. She used cone thread and Lizbeth metallic gold. She is one of the two ladies who tatted all the letters for a new “Endrucks” banner, during the recent game “Name Me” in June 2024.

31. Winnie Ho - she is a very good tatter, and she’s the same lady who came out with the idea of the carrot and snap pea earrings (listed in the Jewellery directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ns-C3xQq4CA1tjZwGxFIyKWelLJbqwXJ/view ) - She posted only one snowflake on 22nd Dec, just in time for the game, and shared with us a very funny anecdote, she told us that she accidentally dropped the snowflake in her bowl of cereals when it was almost finished! So she had to wash and dry it before she could continue!

**********************

And ... if you’re still there, I tatted some snowflakes and stars too, before and during the game, that perhaps you want to look at… So, here is me in the last position, not for the competition but for the fun:
32. Ninetta Caruso - next post!

roundup 1 - stars and snowflakes for tatme dec2022

Yes, you read that right: 2022. I'm a little late, aren't I?

In December 2022 we had our first “Tat Me” game in the Facebook Endrucks group.

Our idea was to indulge in the seasonal tatting (typically stars and snowflakes), but also spice up the game by including a tatting contest. We liked the formula a lot, so much so that we repeated it in December 2023, but I'll tell you about it in a future post. Now, back to December 2022.

The “Tat Me” Game consists of tatting from a given set of patterns, and whosoever tats the most number of models wins the right to have their models as the cover-pic of our group for one week.

The Game started on 28th November 2022 and ended on 22nd December 2022, and the winner won the cover-pic of our group from 24th to 31st December. This is the link to the Facebook post with the announcement - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/fx9YGYw3T4RXLPZe/

Here are the snowflakes and stars patterns we chose for the TatMe Dec2022 game:

1- “Tat me snowflake” - Pattern derived from the “Pretty Me Coaster” designed by me for the Pretty Me Game (Aug 2022) - an adaptation of the heart designed by Muskaan and derived from Endrucks’ pattern E3; https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZENvdgxihM0YI3Ar_UxP9lqRwprmFotP/view

2- “Little Stars and Snowflakes” - Patterns derived from Endrucks’ pattern E12 by Krystyna Mura - each star or snowflake consists of one round where one basic pointed motif is repeated 5 or 6 times; https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D9n0yMmq50bO5PAf7883R7qJ_xR-agHT/view

3- “Celtic Stars and Snowflakes” - Celtic patterns derived from Endrucks’ pattern E12 by Krystyna Mura - based on the same pointed motif as the previous “Little Stars and Snowflakes” - in this variant each celtic motif consists of two interlaced “Little” stars/snowflakes; https://drive.google.com/file/d/129sfHkcR-MIhZniq6T-_Zh5BAcnJUqOw/view

4- "Filigree Stars and Snowflakes" - Patterns derived from Endrucks’ pattern E12 by Krystyna Mura - based on the same pointed motif as the previous “Little Stars and Snowflakes” - in this variant each star/snowflake consists of two rounds worked continuously, from the outer round toward the inner round (split chains involved); https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o_qb8Z1CkHq_nOQ-90k_QWpnhrRb0V_d/view

Many Thanks to Krystyna and to Muskaan for their contribution to the game.

In this post and in the next there are collage pics of a flurry of stars and snowflakes sent by members of the group, listed alphabetically. I invite you to visit the Facebook album where all models are compiled (there are more than 100 pictures) - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.850439426182885&type=3

Among participants there are tatters who posted only once in the group. We appreciate the participation of each and every tatter, and hope that some of them will return to play with us in our future games.

In a successive third post I’ll show you my tatting and some stepwise pics I took for the game.

-------------------------------------------------

1. Adriana Tomanin - She found the “Little Stars and Snowflakes” was the easiest pattern in the game. That makes her a good tatter indeed, because I think this pattern asks for a regular tension, which cannot be taken for granted by tatters on their first try.

2. Anita Schaeder - She thinks the “Tat me snowflake” is a very interesting pattern and a joy to tat! Thank you! She shared her version with 5 repetitions of the heart designed by Muskaan, which makes it similar to the “Pretty Me Coaster”. Also, she tatted one “Little Star”, using DMC size 20. Then, she felt her model from the “Celtic Stars and Snowflakes” was a bit empty in the center, so she added a simple flower (where rings are 3ds and chains 6ds); The “Celtic” and the “Filigree” are tatted with Mölnlycke cotton thread size 20, yellow and light brown, and Lizbeth size 20 "Autumn Spice".

3. Anna Bertini - She called them “Le mie stelline” (my little stars), sent her heartfelt thanks to Muskaan and me and complains that her arthritis doesn't allow her to make nice tatting anymore. A big thank you for your participation, we really appreciated it.

4. Anna Bonelli - She posts often in our group, being a good tatter who can pass smoothly from shuttle to needle. Can you say what she used here? I forgot to ask her…

5. Anna Tedesco - Copying here a comment by Muskaan: “I am sure Krystyna had You in mind when she made multiples 🤣”!!! Actually, I think she hid another bunch of stars and snowflakes, but we had to be strict and counted only the pics she sent! For her own admission of guilt: “I spend more time photographing them than making them!” (We should ask Daniela Galli, if she confided her total count to her pal!)

6. Antonia Lai - She kindly arranged all her models in a short video, wishing “Merry Christmas from Down Under” (she is Australian).

7. Antonietta Gazzaneo - She enjoyed so much all models tatted by others, that she wanted to have a part in the fun, even with only two models!

8. Cristina Reb - In the Filigree Star she added a top picot, ready to be hung as a Christmas decoration! Great idea!

9. Daniela Bogacka - She participated tatting the “Pretty Me Coaster”, but I think it is a nice star for the Game, isn’t it?

10. Daniela Galli - I'm pretty sure there were some more snowflakes under Daniela's cups, but these are what she showed us. To date, her ice drop model is one of only two actually tatted for the Endrucks 1920 Project.

11. Debra Fitchen Cox - She uses her favourite Aunt Lydia size 10 thread. She called her “Celtic” snowflake “Charlie Brown snowflake”! Very funny! She is so kind to thank the group and the admins on every game she participates, for giving her the opportunity to learn: “So enjoying this adventure thank you for being accepting of my attempts.

12. Ellen Stevenson - She tatted three “Little Stars and Snowflakes”. Sportingly, she wrote “Thank you for the project - challenging but enjoying.” Thank you for participating!

13. Irma Noemí Figueroa - She was creative, adding beads and tatted motif as an alternative inner round for the “Celtic Star” pattern. She also tatted a Dream Catcher variation of the “Little Stars and Snowflakes” pattern.

14. Julie Myers - She wrote: “I am a bit late, but I have been doing things for other people. Better late than never.” Julie, nobody is ever late for our Games!
She is the same tatter who designed one of the two pumpkins we have used for the VegPatch game this month (the pattern is listed in the Foliage directory - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EIgPKHH9V2Dg4gDZNefVfSVNRZQC6LbSfhiaWA_s-G8/view ) -

NOTE - If you like taking inspiration from the current or past games, these are collected in a separate document, just choose one and start! - EP Events: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZiNdE53cvqj2cLlxVP-wlga8aocPtzs5/view

15. Kaylyn Beattie - She used Lizbeth Metallic in Gemstone colour. She said it was a fun pattern! And also found she needs to work on her tension a bit. I think she did a great job.

... to be continued.

pattern for the rose stud earrings

Unnatural Rose, I would say! This flower grows from the petals towards the center!

The pic below (posted in Fb few days ago) was the first prototype. Then I found a way to make it as if it was a bezel embellishment. This means the pattern can be adapted for brooches or tatted ice drops, any size, just increasing the number of petals and the number of rings tatted for the cabochon (yet to be tried).

I designed two patterns, one for the cabochon size 8mm, the other for the cabochon size 6mm, shown in next pic:

“Unnatural Rose”  - Link to pdf (two patterns) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cwBe5_pU8tglX0E4kOxisH-k_zwAhgmw/view

I tatted the “Unnatural Rose” with 2 shuttles loaded CTM. The patterns have two parts: the Petals, then the Centre. In both patterns I started from the petals. The Petals are thrown/floating rings around a mock ring. Do not cut the thread after the Petals, leave a mock picot and start the Centre, which is the bezel motif that goes around the cabochon.

- 6mm Swarovski 5817 Pearl Cabochon Crystal Light Grey, which I used with metallic Sanbest thread, blue and light blue 3 strands, white and silver 4 strands.

- 8mm Swarovski 5817 Pearl Cabochon Crystal White, which I used with the gold metallic Sanbest thread, 4 strands.

When all the tatting is done, pass a loop of thread through picots in the rings of the Center. Pass the shuttle inside that loop but do not pull yet.

Then you can pick your pin cabochon and do the final step (see pictures 4 and 8). Put the pin through the mock ring of the Petals and position the side with the cabochon under the Centre.

Pull the thread to close the loop and trap the cabochon. Make 2 or 3 knots with the tails and cut them. There’s no need to sew the tails.

Ciao, Ninetta

Thank you very much for all your nice comments.
